I’m trying to incorporate fatty fish into my diet more, for the nutritional benefits (particularly Omega-3), but there is just one small problem. I don’t really like fish.

I do like a good salmon fillet, but I typically only eat that at a restaurant. I don’t have a lot of experience cooking a fillet. Although I have tried it a few times in the past week and they are not bad. Pretty good, actually! So I’m warming up to fish.

But I think salmon is pretty expensive. So I bought some canned salmon in hopes that I could make something delicious to get my ‘fish fix’ while not spending as much money. I used a lot of seasoning, as you can see, but the verdict is that these patties are light, airy, and moist – a hit!

Baked Salmon Burgers

2 cans of Alaskan wild caught salmon (9 0z cans)
3 eggs
1 whole white onion
1/2 cup Bob’s Red Mill quick cook oats (certified gluten free)
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper powder
1/2 tsp curry powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Salt to taste

Preheat the oven to 425 F.

Drained the canned salmon and add it to your food processor. If you are squeamish about meat in general – try not to look at it. At least, that’s what I did… I left the skin and bones with it and after processing and baking, you’d have no idea if was still in there. The idea of the skin and bones makes me feel a bit bleh, but it worked fine to leave it!

Add the eggs, diced onion, and all seasonings/salt. Once well blended add your oats and pulse the processor again. Let it sit for a few minutes before spooning it into burger sized patties on the cookie sheet covered in parchment paper (the parchment paper is why the patties have such a cool pattern on them!). Bake for 15 minutes or until the very edges of the patties are turning a dark color.

These work great in sandwiches, with a slice of avocado on a rice cake, or as a stand-alone side dish.

  1. I adore fish, especially salmon, fresh or canned. Your burgers look delicious, Aubree! How’d you get those lines on them? They look very photogenic. :-)

    • Thanks Shirley! I’m still trying to like fish more, but I think I am getting there :)

The lines were a happy accident, from the parchment paper I baked them on. I’ve noticed that this happens with most anything I bake on parchment (cookies, biscuits, etc) – so yeah, kinda cool :) ~Aubree

Your Salmon Burgers will be so good, Aubree Cherie. I really like your addition of the curry in this recipe. Hope you have a great weekend and thank you so much for sharing with Full Plate Thursday!

  3. Adding the curry powder was a good idea if you aren’t too fond of fishiness. My family isn’t keen on it much either- unless it’s the fish and chips variety :)
