Well, not really trouble. At least, not yet. But there are definitely monkeys!

I recently secured my dream machine – a cricut! – and have been cutting out paper shapes like crazy. The problem I’ve run into is that once I have the paper cut, the pieces don’t always fit together how I thought they would. So with this card, I decided to go back to my usual way of creating a handmade card – starting with a stamp!

I also recently purchased the Inkadinkado® cling stamp set of kids quotes, which has adorable phrases for cards. I just love them. This one, “You make me smile all over my face”, stood out this week. I thought – what fun!

So I went looking through my Cricut cartridges for some sort of representation of a big grin. I didn’t have to go far – I started in the Sweethearts cricut cartridge and immediately fell in love with this mischievous monkey.

I think next time I would like to try different colors for the monkey. When I was cutting out the elements, I thought that three brown tones would look good – but I’m thinking there is some room for improvement here. Next time, I might only use two colors, with the middle one being different. I’m even toying with two colors of purple. Why not?

But for this card, I took it the in a jungle direction. The background is made from animal print scrapbook paper and the lime green ribbons are meant to simulate vines that the monkey is swinging from. The green backing for the stamp phrase was embossed with a swirling pattern. The parenthesis are also die cuts.

I’d love to hear what YOU would have done with a phrase like this. I’m excited to make other cards with it too.

Giveaway!

When working on the eyes, which I made by using the butt end of a paint brush, white acryllic paint, and a black marker, I made a few mistakes. I don’t think they are big (you can see them below), but I didn’t think I could justify selling the two cards with the mistakes. And I didn’t want these to never be used (they are too cute for that), so I’m going to give one away!

To be entered into the drawing, please do one or more of the following. Each action will count as one entry (so feel free to do as many as you can!).  To make sure I don’t miss any of your entries, feel free to share what you did in a comment below.

I will select a winner using www.random.org and you have until Saturday, December 15 at 11:59 p.m. to enter. Best of luck!
